Chinta Chhod Chintamani

The play revolves around the story of a family where the patriarch, a grumpy father who is fast approaching old age, believes his three grown-up children are making all the wrong choices in life. He blames his oldest son, a promising cricketer, for his philandering ways though he has a steady girl-friend. He disapproves of his daughter’s relentless faith foe a self-styled Godman and his youngest son’s obsession with acting. In turn, his kids dismiss their father’s worries as a lack of understanding and generation gap. How the family overcomes these differences is what the play is all about.

Sakharam Binder

Written by Vijay Tendulkar, one of India’s finest contemporary playwrights, originally in Marathi in 1972. This is one of his best- known plays. Sakharam, a book-binder, picks up other men’s discarded women – cast-off wives who would otherwise be rendered homeless and destitute, or be murdered with impunity – and takes them in as domestic servants and sex partners. Ruling his home like a tyrant, and telling each woman she is “free to leave” whenever she wants, he does not anticipate the moral and emotional complications of this arrangement, which prove heartbreakingly ruinous to everyone involved.

Ghashiram Kotwal

Ghashiram Kotwal is a Marathi play written by playwright Vijay Tendulkar in 1972. The play is a political satire, written as historical drama. It is based on the life of Nana Phadnavis, one of the prominent ministers in the court of the Peshwa of Pune and Ghashiram Kotwal, the police chief of the city. Its theme is how men in power give rise to ideologies to serve their purposes, and later destroy them when they become useless.
